Techniques we use
We employ a range of techniques to address all the aspects of our research, and collaborate with other labs to fill in some additional technique requirements. Listed below are some of the the things we do, followed by additional approaches that we use as part of our collaborations.
- Epithelial tissue culture techniques
- Epi-fluorescent, confocal & live-cell microscopy
- RNA and small RNA extraction
- Protein techniques (western blot, protein labeling, immunoprecipitation)
- DNA techniques (plasmid DNA amplification, mutagenesis)
- RT-PCR & qPCR
- Electrophysiological recordings (Ussing chamber transepithelial voltage clamp, membrane capacitance measurements)
- Knockdown techniques using si/sh-RNA and lipidic & electroporation transfection.
We also do the following in collaborative efforts
- microRNA microarrays
- mRNA genome arrays
- Computational biology prediction algorithms
- in vivo mouse models
- in situ hybridization (kidney tissue)
- Cell isolation and primary culture from mouse kidney tissue
- Knockout mouse models
- Kidney tubule isolation
